AN ODE TO ALL TEACHERS

Today the 5th of September is national teacher’s day in India. A day that should truly be celebrated worldwide.

A BEACON IN THE DARKNESS OF IGNORENCE

Somewhere in the 70’s, steeped in ignorance, I entered the door of my primary school. Since then, all the knowledge I have and what I am today is partly due to my TEACHERS. Theachers who had the patience to teach me, willing to share their knowledge from primary school to university, as well as in life today.

Teachers all over the world are in my eyes, A BEACON IN THE DARKNESS OF IGNORENCE.

ORIGIN

In India, the 5th of September is the birth date of the second president Dr. Sarvepalli Radhakrishnan, a renowned scholar and recipient of the Bharat Ratna, (Jewel of India) which is the highest civilian award In India conferred in recognition of an exceptional service or performance in any field of ‘human endeavour’. This date not only commemorates his birthday but is also chose to celebrate teacher’s day in India

CELEBRATING TEACHER’S DAY

I do remember how we, as school children, prepared months ahead by practicing dances, songs and other activities especially for teachers day. On the day itself, teachers are invited to sit in the audience and enjoy the performance of their students along with gifts of flowers and hand made presents, cards and garlands form the students. To express our gratitude.

RESPECT

Knowledge as well as the person who shares knowledge are highly respected in Indian culture. No matter at what level or creed an imparter of knowledge is, a TEACHER and so is entitled to be respected.

THANK YOU

So thank you teachers all over the world for being the BECON OF LIGHT TO ALL STRUGGLING IN THE DARKNESS OF IGNORENCE.
